Week 3 - BioHeroes
Hey guys!
This week we will be creating psychological heroes based on our birthdays. My birthday is April 30th so my superhero has abilities related to the frontal lobe and serotonin. The frontal lobe is the front part and largest lobe of the brain that carries out mental processes like thinking, decision making, and planning. This is also where our personality is created and what enables us to speak fluently.
Serotonin is a neurotransmitter and a hormone. Serotonin is known as "the happy chemical" as it regulates mood and helps with sleeping, eating, and digestion. It also reduces depression, regulates anxiety, heals wounds, stimulates nausea, and maintains bone health.
My superhero's name is PiensaFeliz. Before she became a superhero, her life was not picture perfect. In middle school, her parents passed away after their car ran off a bridge. After this tragic event, PiensaFeliz was always depressed; she used to be the popular girl but her depression isolated her from everybody and others dissed her because she was now an orphan. This depression continued up until freshman year in high school. That year, a girl she met in her theatre class invited her to watch a movie at her house. At first, she was resistant because she had forgotten what it felt like to be noticed by others. She decided to go and during the movie, she realized that the plot was so relevant to what she was going through in her life. This turned her life around as she realized she needed to let go of the past and that it was not healthy being sad all the time. With guidance from her new best friend, her depression and feelings of loneliness went away. PiensaFeliz decided to change the world by first helping her peers who were going through the same thing she had and trying to help them feel happy again. Then, she would go to suicide prevention meetings and talk with the members who felt like taking their lives and advise and encourage them that their personality is an important aspect in other people's lives. So many people's lives were changed after PiensaFeliz talked to them that they called her their hero. She continues her work in saving people from committing suicide, fighting against feelings of depression and anxiety, and helping them make the right decisions for the better.
